VUS Identification through WGS of a S. cerevisiae cell
Combined wet and dry lab research to find mutational culprits of antibiotic resistance in yeast cells.
This lab was the first time I completed a whole genome sequencing run from start to finish, and it lives near and dear to my heart. Our task was to identify antibiotic resistance-conferring mutations in yeast cells from cells we cultured. Getting to work both in the wet and dry lab was an incredible experience. Transitioning from growing generations of yeast cells until we produced antibiotic-resistant cells and preparing them for sequencing to analysing that same data to find the causative VUS was when I knew for sure that I am meant to be a geneticist.
